Adaptive Home Living provides consulting services and home modification assessment to enable and allow individuals safe accessibility and optimal interaction with their environment and dwellings.


AHL conducts occupational therapy evaluation of living areas recognizing the client’s lifestyle, caregiver dynamics, transitions and unique needs.


AHL also works with other professionals to deliver friendly solutions and inclusive designs, options for environmental modification in spaces. We emphasize on safety and injury prevention while mindful of innovations in accessibility and technology.

About Mariella

Mariella Zuñiga is an Occupational Therapy Consultant with more than 10 years of management experience in Rehabilitation Services. She provides occupational therapy in home-based settings in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

She has expertise in Home Assessment and Home Modifications and has collaborated with the D.C. Office on Aging in implementing the Safe at Home Program, which provides safety adaptations in and around the homes of qualifying seniors and adults with disabilities. She has served in leadership capacities in various settings: as a Quality Assurance Manager in the Early Intervention Program in New York; as the Lead Occupational Therapist in schools/outpatient clinics; and as Supervisor then Director of Rehab Services in one of the largest home health care agencies in New York City. Since relocating to the Washington metropolitan area, she has led rehab teams in skilled nursing facilities and successfully turned operations to profitability, improved compliance and drove high levels of client/patient satisfaction.

Mariella holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Instituto de Empresa Business School in Madrid, Spain. She has worked as an independent consultant and advised senior management in strategy, business development and operational processes. She was a principal in a start-up Internet company providing online home exercises program.

Her volunteer work includes serving as the Ambassador for the Washington, D.C., Chapter of Aging 2.0. She also successfully managed for four years the Mentorship Program of MET United States (an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs through mentorship, education and technology). 

Mariella earned an Executive Certificate in Home Modification from the University of Southern California and is also a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist through the designation program of the National Association of Home Builders.
